Tara Longhurst wrote this review after spending a weekend in Purbeck experiencing several adventure days during her stay.
My mini adventure to Purbeck was absolutely amazing. It’s beautiful and there is so much to see and do there. I spent a long weekend in Dorset and will most definitely be going back.
I chose Purbeck because I had heard great things about it. For my birthday my friends had clubbed together and bought me a gift voucher to spend on a day out somewhere. I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie and love doing anything that gets the blood pumping and the adrenalin coursing through my veins, so booking onto an adventure day was high up on my list of priorities.
I decided to make the most of my voucher and put it towards a trip with everyone to Purbeck. There were six of us all together and I discovered that booking online for all of us had worked out cheaper, rather than paying directly, which was a great bonus. The saving I made meant I had a bit more to spend on accommodation. In the end I booked this really cute little cottage, just five minutes from the beach, which had all the basic amenities we needed for our trip.
The plan was to pack in as much as we possibly could and boy, did we do that! On the morning of our arrival we went coasteering, which was an unbelievable experience. As we are all quite experienced climbers, we really enjoyed scrabbling around the rocks on the coastline and exploring all the caves. All the kit is provided for you and we all agreed that we felt safe and well looked after.
We also did a lot of cliff jumping, which was epic. We were all given wetsuit gloves, wetsuit socks and thick wetsuits to wear – and it is just as well because that day the water felt like ice. It was also quite rough on the day, which made the experience even better for me. A couple of my friends are not confident swimmers, but our team leaders were with us the entire time. Not only were they taking care of our safety, but they were also great at pointing out wildlife and Purbeck landmarks that we could to see from the coast.
The next day we were taken kayaking, which I had never done before. We were shown how to control the kayak, how to work with your partner to get moving and we were also given some basic knowledge on navigation. By the time we hit the water I was pumped. It was so much fun, although be warned, your arms will ache the next day!
In the afternoon we went on a 32 mile bike, which was the perfect way to see Purbeck. The instructor was very knowledgeable about the area and showed us some truly beautiful places. The first half of the journey was mainly scenic and we got to enjoy the countryside and the sun which made an appearance. But then we were taken along a pretty daring bike track, which really put us through our paces. The terrain in parts was quite uneven and there were lots of challenging hills, so we all felt the last few miles on our way home.
I would highly recommend booking onto an adventure day in Purbeck. If, like me, you are into your high octane sports, then you won’t be disappointed. We tried to do as much as we could whilst we were there, but there were so much more that we could have done, such as rock climbing, raft building and orienteering. We had so much fun that we have already booked a trip for next year!
